Policing and Crime Bill - have your say!

08 Mar
2016

Last month we reported on the introduction of the Policing and Crime Bill. The Bill has now passed its second reading without a division and unsurprisingly without comment being passed on the licensing elements. This means the next stage is for MPs to consider the Bill in Public Bill Committee, which is expected to hold oral evidence sessions on Tuesday 15 March 2016.

Those inclined to do so can now submit their views about the Bill in writing to the Public Bill Committee as long as they do so by the end of the Committee stage, anticipated to be Thursday 14 April 2016 (or earlier should the Committee report earlier).

Any submissions should address where you have a special interest or expertise and the factual information of which you would like the Committee to be aware, ideally either suggesting amendments to the Bill and supporting or opposing amendments tabled/proposed by others.

Submissions should be emailed to scrutiny@parliament.uk.

Please note that any submissions should be dated, include a brief introduction, not have been previously published or circulated elsewhere, be in the form of a Word document, provide a summary, number the paragraphs, add Essential statistics or further details as numbered annexes, not exceed 3,000 words and the covering email should include the name, address, telephone number and email address of the person responsible for the submission.

We would urge those involved in the trade to take the time to look at  the Bill and make suitable comment – we will be!

Further details about the Bill can be found on the Parliament website and our previous article.

Law correct at the date of publication.
